Bushman Repellent Logo

BUSHMAN HISTORY

Bushman was founded in 1990 by an industrial chemist with over
35 years experience developing personal insect repellents

His goal was to produce the very best repellent

It was developed in the tropics for the tropics and tested in 'the
swamps' to ensure it was the best performing repellent in the
harshest of conditions

Aerosols, Gels and, under Juno's ownership, a Pump Spray and a
Roll-On... a Bushman for everyone!

Bushman was purchased by the Juno Group of Companies in 2011

The objective in purchasing such an iconic Australian brand was to
further increase brand awareness and product availability nationally
and internationally, whilst expanding the range of highly effective
products

When Juno took ownership of Bushman there were opportunities within national distribution that had not yet been maximised


Introducing Bushman to new categories whilst increasing vendors in exsisting categories created significant growth, particularly in the grocery and pharmacy channels


Since Juno's acquisition, Bushman has enjoyed yearly growth and 6 years on almost a 40% increase in sales

It's important to keep innovating


In 2012 the Bushman range offered various sizes and
delivery systems

However, it was identified that there were two delivery
systems that existed within the insect repellent category
that Bushman did not offer

Therefore Juno Laboratories took the below steps to in-
troduce these products...

  • Market research to identify preferred pack-size etc.
  • Forumlation development
  • Formulation testing
  • Obtain regulatory approval from the APVMA
  • Design new labelling (ensuring it meets all regulatory
    requirements (APVMA/GS1))
  • Source new packaging
  • Test new packaging (Operational, Durability)
  • Create marketing material
  • Introduce the product to the trade
  • Product launch

The two new products were launched separately, with a
season's gap between them

This would allow two seasons for the first product (Pump
Spray) to be launched, accepted and purchased by the
consumer and subsequently established on the market

Once this had happened, the process could be repeated
with the second product (Roll-On)

The launch of the two new products, and subsequent
success, is testament to Juno Laboratorie's acumen relating to market research, understanding of the segment and commercial experience

Both new products quickly became extremely popular,
one of which became one of the company's best selling
products, with seemingly little product cannibalisation,
suggesting it introduced Bushman to a while new con-
sumer

International expansion

Bushman's popularity and growth has always been its
effectiveness. There has been very little promotion
and marketing exercises throughout the brand's
growth

Mosquito populations and vector-borne disease is
constantly on the increase. The world needs more ef-
fective repellents

With this in mind Juno Laboratories is committed to
the international registration and growth of Bushman
globally

Bushman Repellent Spray

The two new Bushman products launched under
Juno's owndership; a 100ml Pump Spray and a 65g
Roll-On. These two products were developed and
launched following market research identifying a
requirement for these delivery systems. Juno
Laboratories initiative was proven as both have
become top sellers


Tangle teezer products

Tangle Teezer history


Tangle Teezer’s founder, Shaun Pulfrey, started a career as a hair colourist in 1978


In 2003, Pulfrey began to research and develop the idea for Tangle Teezer brushes, with the aim of creating the world’s first professional detangling tool


Pulfrey appeared on Dragons’ Den in 2007, a UK TV show similar to ‘Shark Tank’, offering 15% of the Tangle Teezer brand for £80,000 but was rejected


However, when the episode was aired, the Tangle Teezer website crashed as a result of public demand, with 1,500 orders placed


Later in 2007 ‘The Original’ was officially launched and was stocked in high street store, Boots. This was a real turning point for the business


In the next 12 months professional and consumer sales in the UK showed rapid growth and Tangle Teezer began exporting brushes worldwide


35,000 brushes were sold in the company’s first year


Today over 40 MILLION units have been sold worldwide

The Tangle Teezer range suits the Juno Laboratories’ ethos of being a distinctive brand, producing high quality, efficacious products

In September 2018 Juno Laboratories took over Australian distributorship of Tangle Teezer and is working to expand the number of vendors stocking the products as well as expanding brand awareness to increase sales

Itchfix history

ItchFix is quick acting anti-itch bite and burn cream.
It is highly effective at soothing and repairing minor skin
irritations caused by bites and burns

ItchFix contains Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel and Chamomile,
all known to be natural 'healers', a point-of-difference
compared to all major rivals

Stage one: concept

Concept is one of the most vital stages in product development

This faze involves lots of research into the market, regulatory environment and understanding of rival products so the project takes the right direction for the best outcome, and the greatest success

  • Brainstorming of names, packaging and delivery systems
  • Evaluating existing products
  • Market research to establish opportunity and identify potential
    points of difference or benefits to integrate into the product
  • Exploring and establishing available / un-used colour
    schemes as potential point-of-difference on shelf

Stage two: development

Juno Laboratories has in-house know-how, skills, contacts
and equipment to create, test and refine all elements of a perfect product this stage involves:

  • Refining formulation
  • Testing for efficacy, wearer comfort etc.
  • Creating long-term stability data
  • Utilising in-house graphic design to create logos and
    branding guidelines
  • Final product testing

Understanding of the regulatory environment is a key advantage

Juno Laboratories has the understanding necessary to work within the parameters to create safe, user-friendly products that can be registered seamlessly

This stage involves:

  • Using in-house and long-term external regulatory advisors to
    understand requirements for registration.
  • Ensuring that all labelling is in accordance with the regulations
    and all claims are accurate and can be supported

Packaging over 1,000,000 units using a mixture of cans, bottles, tubes, trays, boxes, etc. has allowed for Juno Laboratories to build strong supply sources and in-house expertise



This stage involves:


  • Utilising in-house graphic design to create logos and
    branding guidelines
  • Sourcing and developing packaging from long-term suppliers
    as well as engaging new suppliers to meet required standards

  • Juno introduced ItchFix to its pharmacy channel
    partners, distributors and connections resulting in ItchFix
    now being available in all 3 major pharmacy wholesalers,
    effectively making it available to every pharmacy Austra-
    lia-wide
  • ItchFix is also distributed and sold in New Zealand,
    Greenland and Hong Kong through Juno's dealer net-
    works in those localities
